The make up water for two Weil-Mclain 88 boilers with an output of 3100lb/hr of steam each. They run the the heat and hot water where I work and are using a lot of water because of bad traps. I wanted to replace all the traps this summer but working for the state is not like working in the real world.
Learn MoreUse boiler horsepower to calculate steam flow. Boiler horsepower is not related to mechanical horsepower. It is a boiler industry rating that predicates the amount of saturated steam a boiler will generate starting with water at 212 degrees Fahrenheit and 0 pounds per square inch gauge (psig--meaning atmospheric pressure) and ending with steam at 212 F and 0 psig.

Learn MoreStandard physics laws of temperature and pressure are used to measure the explosive potential of boilers and pressure vessels. New calculations show, for instance, that if liberated in a rupture, a 30-gallon hot-water tank at 90 psig (or 104.7 psia) has approximately 314,095 foot-pounds of energy to flash its water into steam at 332°F.
Learn MoreCalculation Of Water Consumption And Fuel A Boiler - posted in Industrial Professionals: Excuse my English. Learn MoreBoiler Ratings and Boiler Load . The oldest method of rating boilers, still used to rate small boilers, is by horsepower (hp). One horsepower is defined as the ability to evaporate 34.5 lbs of water into steam at 212 deg. F and above. Large boiler capacity is generally given in lbs of steam evaporated per hour, under specified steam conditions.
Learn MoreA hot water boiler, strictly speaking, is not a boiler. It is a fuel-fired hot water heater. Because of its similarities in many ways to a steam boiler, the term ''hot water boiler'' is used. Hotwater boilers that have temperatures above 250° Fahrenheit or pressures higher than 160 psig are called ''high temperature hot water boilers''.
Learn MoreThe heat energy which has been added and which has had the effect of raising the temperature of the water is known as the liquid enthalpy.
